The Department of Physiotherapy is dedicated to delivering high-quality, evidence-based care while prioritizing patient safety. We are uniquely positioned as one of the few centres in India specializing exclusively in physiotherapy for oncological conditions. Our extensive range of services ensures a continuous and comprehensive care experience for patients throughout their cancer treatment journey.

Services
Critical Care and Bone Marrow Transplant Units:

We provide specialized care for high-risk patients, emphasizing the prevention and management of complications associated with pulmonary health and immobility in ICU settings, as well as addressing issues such as steroid-induced myopathy and pulmonary graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) in Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) patients.

General Services:

Encompasses perioperative and postoperative physiotherapy, as well as care for patients receiving medical oncology and radiation therapy.

Specialized Clinics:

The Physiotherapy Department offers a range of specialized clinics tailored to the unique needs of specific patient groups as mentioned below

Lymphedema Management Clinic:

Provides thorough care for lymphedema caused by various cancers, including breast, Genito-urinary, Head and Neck cancers. Treatments involve Complex Decongestive Therapy (CDT) with Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD), exercises, skin care, Multiple-layer Lymphatic Bandaging (MLLB), and compression garments. We also offer Intermittent Pneumatic Compression (IPC) therapy and utilize advanced technologies such as Laser therapy and Deep Oscillation therapy.

Laser Clinic:

We offer the latest technology of laser therapy which works on the principle of photobiomodulation for treating various conditions like mucositis, pressure sores, delayed wound healing, pain relief etc.


Neuro Rehabilitation Clinic:

Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to address the needs of patients with conditions such as hemiplegia, paraplegia, balance loss, and ataxia resulting from CNS tumors.

Palliative and Non-Pharmacological Pain Management Clinic:

This clinic Focuses on improving quality of life by alleviating pain, enhancing mobility, and managing fatigue. It aims to maximize pain control, reduce treatment-related side effects, and enhance overall wellness using modalities like TENS, Laser, Deep Oscillation, Infrared, laser and EMG Biofeedback. .

Incontinence management clinic:

Bladder and Bowel incontinence is a well reported complications caused by Gastro-Intestinal and Genito-Urinary cancers which has significant adverse effect on the quality of life of the patients. In ACTREC, we provide comprehensive and advanced incontinence management beyond the conventional Kegel exercises

Obesity Management Clinic:

Provides personalized exercise and diet plans, in collaboration with dieticians, to manage obesity and help prevent disease recurrence.

Academics and Training

The department is actively involved in research, with 10 studies either completed or in progress.

  • We offer an Advanced Fellowship in Onco Physiotherapy.

The Advanced Fellowship in Onco-Physiotherapy is a one-year full-time programme aimed at developing advanced clinical competence, academic knowledge, and research skills in oncology rehabilitation. The programme prepares physiotherapists to deliver evidence informed, patient-centred rehabilitation across the cancer care continuum, including acute care, survivorship, and palliative care.

Duration of the Programme: Total Duration: 1 Year

Academic and Clinical Training: 6 Months

Supervised Clinical Internship: 6 Months

  • We offer a 3-month Onco-Physiotherapy Observatory training program for physiotherapists interested in Onco physiotherapy.
  • We allow Internship posting through the institute.
