Histone H3
The N-terminal tail of histone H3 can undergo several different types of epigenetic modifications that influence cellular processes.
Four different isoforms of H3 have been reported H3.1, H3.2, H3.3 which are similar and CENPA, the centromeric histone which shows a wide variability in aminoacid composition between species and even within the same species [Kavitha Sarma et al,(2005)].
Histone H3 is specifically phosphorylated during both mitosis and meiosis in patterns that are coordinated in both space and time [ Fabienne Hans et al,(2001) ].
