Histone H1
Histone variants are 21 to 29 kDa proteins consisting of 194 to 255 amino acid residues. There are total 10 proteins. H1 is a linker histone which binds to the 'nucleosome' from outside and facilitates compaction of chromatin. Each H1 histones are coded by a single gene each.
