Histone Lysine deacetylase

Histone acetylation marks are removed by the class of enzymes named 'histone deacetylases' (HDACs). The function is mediated by a 'histone deacetylase' catalytic domain. They often exist as a part of multi-subunit complexes. Eleven deacetylases are known in rats that are coded by eleven genes.
