Histone modifying enzymes: The Writers

Writers, a class of enzymes for the addition of various chemical groups like acetyl-, methyl-, phosphate-, ubiquitin- etc. on histone proteins. The writers mediate the addition of chemical groups provides the docking site for different proteins with specific domains. There are 61 enzymes belong to 4 different categories of writers. The important categories are Histone acetyltransferases (HAT/KAT), Histone methyltransferases (HMT/KMT), Kinases, Ubiquitinases etc.

Types of Writers Arginine deiminase, Arginine methyltransferase, Lysine acetyltransferase, Lysine biotinase, Lysine methyltransferase, Lysine ubiquitin ligase, Serine/threonine/tyrosine kinase
