Post-translational modifications of histones

Post-translational modification (PTM) of histones play an important role in gene regulation. N-terminal tails and C-terminal tails of histones are the most accessible regions of for various modifications such as acetylation, methylation, phosphorylation, ubiquitination etc. PTMs help in recruitment of ‘writer’, ‘eraser’ or ‘reader’. Further, PTMs alters chromatin state and gene expression.

Types of PTMs Arginine citrullination, Arginine methylation, Lysine acetylation, Lysine biotinylation, Lysine methylation, Lysine ubiquitination, Serine/threonine/tyrosine phosphorylation
