Histone Variants

These proteins are non-canonical and non-allelic histones – with a difference of variations in amino acids from few to several. These are expressed throughout the cell cycle and can be incorporated in the nucleosome for a specific function in different phases of cell cycle. Histone variants are coded by a single gene known to be distributed throughout the genome, and their transcripts have poly(A) tails.

Types of histone variants Histone H1, Histone H2A, Histone H2B, Histone H3
