Histone Lysine ubiquitinases

Lysine ubiquitination is carried out by Ubiquitin ligases. The process requires the interplay of three enzymes. (1) E1 enzyme required for activation of ubiquitin, (2) E2 ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme for binding to ubiquitin, and (3) E3 ligase for transfer of ubiquitin from E2 to the target protein. There are twelve proteins reported to possess ubiqitinase activity of histones.
